Key Responsibilities
- Provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
- Assist clients with mobility, transfers, and exercises as per care plan.
- Administer medication reminders and assist with self-administration.
- Monitor and record vital signs, reporting any changes in client condition to the supervisor.
- Perform light housekeeping duties, meal preparation, and grocery shopping.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to clients, fostering a positive environment.
- Document care provided accurately and in a timely manner.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Respect client privacy and maintain confidentiality at all times.
Required Skills
- Successful completion of a recognized Healthcare Aide or Health Care Assistant program.
- Current registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry (or eligibility).
- Valid CPR and First Aid certification.
- Ability to lift and transfer clients safely (up to 50 lbs).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and compassion.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable transportation for travel between client locations (if applicable).
- Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Healthcare Aide in a long-term care, assisted living, or home care setting.
- Experience with clients facing cognitive impairment or specific health challenges (e.g., dementia, palliative care).
- Proficiency in a second language relevant to Vancouver's diverse population.
- Basic computer literacy for documentation and communication.
