As a Stagehand, you will be an integral part of the production team, responsible for the safe and efficient setup, operation, and strike of scenery, lighting, sound, and stage equipment. This encompasses everything from intricate set pieces and robust rigging systems to state-of-the-art audio visual technology. You will work closely with technical directors, lighting designers, sound engineers, and fellow crew members to transform creative visions into breathtaking realities. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the safe and efficient loading, unloading, and setup of stage equipment, scenery, props, lighting, and sound systems.
- Operate and maintain various stage machinery, including rigging, hoists, and stage automation systems during rehearsals and live performances.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment, ensuring all gear is in optimal working condition.
- Work collaboratively with lighting, sound, and other technical departments to integrate all production elements seamlessly.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, company policies, and venue-specific procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all.
- Execute quick changes, scene transitions, and stage resets efficiently and discreetly during live shows.
- Assist with the systematic strike and packing of all equipment at the end of productions or events.
- Report any equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or potential hazards to the Crew Chief or Technical Director immediately.
- Attend pre-show briefings and post-show debriefs as required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in stagecraft, live event production, or a similar technical theatre role.
- Strong practical knowledge of stage equipment, rigging, and basic carpentry.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and production plans.
- Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy equipment (up to 25kg) and work in various conditions, including heights.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to health and safety practices in a live event environment.
- Problem-solving ability and adaptability to changing production requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant technical theatre qualification or vocational training.
- Experience with specific lighting or sound console operation.
- Certification in working at height (e.g., IPAF, PASMA).
- First Aid certification.
- Full UK driving license.
