Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor junior care assistants, providing guidance and support in daily tasks and client interactions.
  • Administer medication as prescribed, maintaining accurate records and adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Provide comprehensive personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, with utmost respect for client dignity.
  • Assist clients with mobility and transfers, utilizing proper techniques and equipment to ensure safety.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with clients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Monitor and record clients' health status, vital signs, and any changes in condition, reporting concerns promptly to the nursing staff.
  • Prepare and serve meals, ensuring dietary requirements and preferences are met.
  • Engage clients in stimulating activities, fostering social interaction and mental well-being.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized living environment for clients.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and the healthcare team, providing updates and addressing concerns.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide first aid as necessary, following established protocols.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and participate in team meetings and training sessions.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 4 years of experience as a Care Assistant or similar role.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Proven leadership abilities and experience in mentoring junior staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong observational and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency in personal care, mobility assistance, and medication administration.
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for elder care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Care Aide Certificate or equivalent diploma from a recognized institution.
  • Experience working with clients with dementia or other cognitive impairments.
  • Knowledge of various therapeutic activities and engagement techniques.
  • Proficiency in a second language relevant to Vancouver's diverse population (e.g., Cantonese, Mandarin, Punjabi).
