Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on railway track, signaling equipment, and associated infrastructure.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs to track systems, points, crossings, and general rail equipment.
  • Operate and maintain specialized track maintenance machinery and hand tools safely and efficiently.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company procedures.
  • Respond to emergency call-outs for track defects or equipment failures, ensuring rapid resolution to minimize service disruption.
  • Record maintenance activities, defects found, and repairs carried out accurately in logs and digital systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, operations staff, and other technicians to ensure seamless project execution and operational continuity.
  • Participate in continuous training and development to stay updated with industry best practices and technological advancements.
  • Ensure the quality and integrity of all work performed, contributing to the overall reliability and safety of the rail network.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in railway track maintenance and equipment repair (minimum 2 years).
  • Strong understanding of railway infrastructure components and their functions.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of hand and power tools relevant to track work.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals.
  • Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Unwavering commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and environments.
  • Valid UK driving license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Rail Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Current PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification.
  • Experience with specific rail maintenance machinery (e.g., tampers, rail grinders).
  • Knowledge of signaling systems and associated components.
  • First Aid certification.
