Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a school bus on assigned routes according to a strict time schedule.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure safety and report any defects.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, school bus regulations, and company safety policies.
- Maintain discipline and ensure the orderly conduct of students on the bus.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, school personnel, and dispatch.
- Complete all required paperwork accurately, including trip logs, incident reports, and passenger counts.
- Ensure the cleanliness and presentability of the bus interior and exterior.
- Manage student loading and unloading procedures safely and efficiently at designated stops.
- Administer first aid or emergency care as needed and according to training and established protocols.
Required Skills
- Valid UK Driving Licence with Category D (PCV) entitlement.
- Valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) qualification.
- Clean driving record with no major endorsements.
- Minimum 3 years of commercial driving experience (PCV preferred).
- Excellent knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards children.
- Ability to perform pre-trip inspections and basic vehicle maintenance checks.
- Reliability and punctuality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a school bus driver or transporting children.
- Demonstrable knowledge of Bristol road networks and local areas.
- Current enhanced DBS check.
- Valid First Aid certification.
- Ability to handle challenging situations calmly and effectively.
