Hiring.zycto is excited to announce an opening for an Entry-Level Forestry Technician Assistant to join our dedicated team in South Walkerville, Windsor. You’ll assist in preparing sites for reforestation, monitoring young tree growth, identifying common tree species, and utilizing basic forestry tools and equipment safely. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior forestry technicians in timber cruising, tree planting, and stand tending operations.
- Conduct field data collection related to forest inventory, growth, and yield measurements.
- Operate and maintain basic forestry equipment such as hand tools, GPS units, and data recorders.
- Participate in forest health assessments, including identifying pests, diseases, and invasive species.
- Support wildlife habitat surveys and ecological restoration projects.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and environmental regulations in all field activities.
- Assist with site preparation, trail maintenance, and other general forestry labour tasks.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to data entry for project documentation.
- Work collaboratively with team members to achieve project goals efficiently and effectively.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid G-Class Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activity, including lifting up to 50 lbs, walking long distances on uneven terrain, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of common tree species and ecological principles.
- Strong work ethic and a willingness to learn new skills.
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Enrollment in or completion of a college diploma or university degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Conservation, or a related field.
- Previous experience with outdoor work, landscaping, or agricultural labour.
- Basic first aid and CPR certification.
- Familiarity with GPS devices and data collection applications.
- Chainsaw safety certification (e.g., OHF Chainsaw Safety Certificate).
