Key Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize multi-drop and single-drop delivery routes for a diverse fleet, considering geographical constraints, time windows, vehicle capacities, and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage daily vehicle dispatch operations, allocating tasks to drivers and ensuring adherence to planned schedules.
  • Monitor real-time transport operations, making proactive adjustments to routes and schedules in response to unforeseen events (e.g., traffic, breakdowns, weather).
  • Utilize transport management systems (TMS) and route optimization software to enhance planning accuracy and efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, clients, and internal teams regarding delivery schedules, potential delays, and service updates.
  • Analyze transport data, identify trends, and propose solutions for continuous improvement in fleet utilization, fuel efficiency, and operational costs.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant road transport legislation, health & safety standards, and company policies.
  • Participate in driver briefings, debriefings, and performance reviews related to route adherence and delivery efficiency.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in transport planning, route optimization, and vehicle dispatch.
  • Strong geographical knowledge of Scotland and the UK road network.
  • Proficiency in using transport management systems (TMS) and route optimization software.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and derive actionable insights.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree or professional qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific industry-leading TMS platforms (e.g., Paragon, Mandata, Microlise).
  • Knowledge of specific transport regulations (e.g., Working Time Directive, Tachograph rules).
  • Previous experience in a fast-paced, multi-drop distribution environment.
  • Hazardous goods awareness or certification (ADR).
