Key Responsibilities
- Design and optimize multi-drop and single-drop delivery routes for a diverse fleet, considering geographical constraints, time windows, vehicle capacities, and regulatory compliance.
- Manage daily vehicle dispatch operations, allocating tasks to drivers and ensuring adherence to planned schedules.
- Monitor real-time transport operations, making proactive adjustments to routes and schedules in response to unforeseen events (e.g., traffic, breakdowns, weather).
- Utilize transport management systems (TMS) and route optimization software to enhance planning accuracy and efficiency.
- Communicate effectively with drivers, clients, and internal teams regarding delivery schedules, potential delays, and service updates.
- Analyze transport data, identify trends, and propose solutions for continuous improvement in fleet utilization, fuel efficiency, and operational costs.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant road transport legislation, health & safety standards, and company policies.
- Participate in driver briefings, debriefings, and performance reviews related to route adherence and delivery efficiency.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in transport planning, route optimization, and vehicle dispatch.
- Strong geographical knowledge of Scotland and the UK road network.
- Proficiency in using transport management systems (TMS) and route optimization software.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills under pressure.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze data and derive actionable insights.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or professional qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Experience with specific industry-leading TMS platforms (e.g., Paragon, Mandata, Microlise).
- Knowledge of specific transport regulations (e.g., Working Time Directive, Tachograph rules).
- Previous experience in a fast-paced, multi-drop distribution environment.
- Hazardous goods awareness or certification (ADR).
