Job Description

Are you an experienced Freight Forwarder with a passion for international trade and a meticulous eye for detail? Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and proactive individual to join our growing team in Portobello, Edinburgh. This is a critical role responsible for managing the end-to-end logistics process for international shipments, ensuring timely, cost-effective, and compliant movement of goods across borders.

As our Freight Forwarder, you will be at the heart of our operations, coordinating with clients, carriers, customs officials, and overseas agents to facilitate the seamless flow of goods. Your expertise in international shipping documentation, customs procedures, and Incoterms will be invaluable in navigating the complexities of global supply chains. You will manage import and export consignments from initial booking through to final delivery, ensuring all administrative tasks are completed accurately and efficiently. This includes preparing and processing bills of lading, airway bills, customs declarations, and other necessary paperwork.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end import/export logistics processes for international shipments, ensuring adherence to schedules and budgets.
  • Prepare, process, and ensure accuracy of all shipping documentation, including Bills of Lading, Airway Bills, customs declarations, and manifests.
  • Coordinate effectively with clients, ocean/air carriers, overseas agents, and customs authorities to facilitate smooth cargo movement.
  • Track and trace shipments from origin to destination, providing regular updates and proactively resolving any transit issues or delays.
  • Ensure full compliance with international shipping regulations, customs laws, Incoterms, and company policies.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, offering expert advice on shipping solutions, regulations, transit times, and costs.
  • Negotiate rates with carriers and suppliers to optimize cost-efficiency and service levels for clients.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Freight Forwarder in an international shipping environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Incoterms, customs procedures, and international trade regulations.
  • Proficiency in freight forwarding software (e.g., CargoWise, Boxtop, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving capabilities and ability to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree or professional qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Customs compliance certification (e.g., BIFA training or equivalent).
  • Experience with specific trade lanes (e.g., EU-UK, Far East, North America).
  • Multilingual abilities, particularly in European or Asian languages.
