Job Description
Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly dedicated, experienced, and skilled Sailor specializing in Navigation & Crew Assistance to become a vital part of our dynamic maritime team based in Corstorphine, Edinburgh. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with navigation, including chart plotting, GPS operation, and radar interpretation under the supervision of officers.
- Perform watchkeeping duties as assigned, maintaining vigilance and reporting any observations or concerns.
- Conduct routine vessel maintenance, including painting, cleaning, minor repairs, and equipment lubrication.
- Participate in mooring and unmooring operations, handling lines and fendering safely and efficiently.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety procedures, including fire fighting, life-saving appliance operation, and emergency drills.
- Assist in the loading and unloading of stores, provisions, and equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the vessel's deck, living quarters, and working areas.
- Support the engineering department with basic tasks as required.
- Operate deck machinery and equipment, such as winches and cranes, following standard operating procedures.
- Contribute to a positive and cooperative crew environment, fostering strong teamwork and communication.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Sailor or Deckhand on commercial or leisure vessels.
- Valid STCW Basic Safety Training certificates (Personal Survival Techniques, Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting, Elementary First Aid, Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities).
- Proficiency in basic seamanship, including knot tying, rope work, and rigging.
- Familiarity with navigation equipment and principles.
- Strong understanding of maritime safety procedures and regulations.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a demanding environment.
- Physical fitness to perform duties, including lifting, climbing, and working in various weather conditions.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Efficient Deck Hand (EDH) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with specific vessel types relevant to Hiring.zycto's fleet (e.g., passenger vessels, survey vessels, tugs).
- Basic knowledge of marine engineering or engine room operations.
- Additional maritime certifications (e.g., GMDSS-GOC/ROC, Medical First Aid, Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats).
