Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive ecological field surveys (e.g., flora, fauna, wetlands, aquatic habitats) in various environments.
- Perform ecological impact assessments and develop mitigation strategies for proposed development projects.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, environmental assessments, and permit applications in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Analyze and interpret biological data using appropriate statistical and GIS tools.
- Provide expert ecological advice and consultation to clients, regulatory agencies, and project teams.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure successful project execution.
- Ensure all work adheres to provincial (e.g., ministère de l'Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques – MELCC) and federal environmental regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, planners, and other environmental specialists.
- Participate in client meetings, public consultations, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Stay current with evolving environmental legislation, policies, and best practices in ecology and conservation.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum 4 years of professional experience in ecological consulting or environmental management.
- Strong knowledge of Quebec and Canadian environmental legislation and regulations (e.g., Loi sur la qualité de l'environnement, Fisheries Act).
- Proven experience with ecological field methodologies, data collection, and analysis.
- Excellent technical report writing and presentation skills in English and French.
- Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) for mapping and data analysis.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel for fieldwork as required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in challenging field conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Membership in a relevant professional association (e.g., Ordre des biologistes du Québec).
- Experience with wetland delineation and functional assessments.
- Specialization in a particular ecological discipline (e.g., ornithology, botany, aquatic ecology).
