Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Worker to join our vibrant community-focused team in Cranston, Calgary. This pivotal role involves providing essential mental health support and intervention services directly within the community, working with individuals and families facing various mental health challenges. As a Community Mental Health Worker, you will be on the front lines, helping clients navigate their mental health journey, connecting them with vital resources, and empowering them to achieve greater well-being and independence. You will be an integral part of a collaborative network, working alongside other healthcare professionals, community organizations, and local support groups to create a holistic care environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial assessments of clients' mental health needs, including comprehensive risk assessments and safety planning.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with clients, families, and interdisciplinary teams, ensuring cultural sensitivity.
  • Provide one-on-one and group counselling, psychoeducation, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions in various community and home settings.
  • Facilitate seamless connections to external community resources, including housing support, employment services, specialized therapies, and peer support networks.
  • Offer immediate crisis intervention and de-escalation support as needed, maintaining a calm presence and ensuring client and community safety and well-being.
  • Advocate effectively on behalf of clients to ensure equitable access to services and support systems, challenging systemic barriers when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely client records, meticulously documenting progress, interventions, and outcomes in compliance with provincial and federal privacy regulations.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, case conferences, and continuous professional development activities to enhance personal skills and overall service delivery excellence.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of various mental health conditions, evidence-based treatment modalities, and recovery-oriented practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough psychosocial assessments, formulate clinical impressions, and develop effective, client-centered care plans.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building trusting rapport with diverse populations, including those from vulnerable or marginalized groups.
  • Proficiency in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques, with a proven ability to manage high-stress situations calmly and effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously in community settings while also contributing effectively and collaboratively to a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, coupled with meticulous attention to detail in record-keeping and case management.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and consistent access to a reliable vehicle for extensive community travel within Calgary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Nursing, or a related health/human services field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of direct experience in a community mental health setting or a similar direct client care role.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse cultural backgrounds, Indigenous populations, and vulnerable populations.
  • In-depth knowledge of local Calgary community resources, support networks, and social service agencies.
  • Proficiency in a second language relevant to Calgary's diverse population (e.g., Punjabi, Tagalog, Mandarin, Arabic, Spanish).
