Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage complex urban planning projects from conception to completion, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets.
- Develop and implement land use plans, zoning bylaws, and urban design guidelines that align with the city's strategic vision and sustainability goals.
- Conduct comprehensive policy research, socio-economic analysis, and environmental impact assessments to inform planning decisions.
- Facilitate and lead public consultation processes, stakeholder engagement, and inter-agency coordination meetings to build consensus and integrate community feedback.
- Prepare detailed planning reports, presentations, and technical documents for internal teams, clients, and municipal review boards.
- Provide expert advice and recommendations on planning applications, development proposals, and regulatory interpretations.
- Utilize GIS and other planning software to analyze data, create maps, and visualize planning concepts.
- Mentor junior planners and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and professional excellence.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
- Full membership (or eligibility for full membership) with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and/or Alberta Professional Planners Institute (APPI).
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive professional experience in urban planning, preferably within a municipal or consulting environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in land use planning, policy development, zoning, and regulatory frameworks.
- Strong understanding of urban design principles, sustainable development practices, and community engagement methodologies.
- Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS), AutoCAD, and other relevant planning and graphic design tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent experience.
- Experience with specific Edmonton municipal planning policies, bylaws, and development approval processes.
- Specialized experience in areas such as transportation planning, environmental planning, or heritage conservation.
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
- Advanced skills in 3D modeling and visualization software (e.g., SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite).
