In this role, you will be instrumental in various aspects of sawmill operations, from the initial handling of raw logs and lumber to operating basic processing machinery under supervision. Your daily tasks will include sorting, stacking, and preparing lumber for further processing or shipment, ensuring each piece meets our rigorous quality standards. Key Responsibilities
- Load and unload logs, lumber, and other materials manually or using basic equipment.
- Operate various hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently (e.g., chainsaws, debarkers, chippers, stackers).
- Sort and stack lumber according to grade, size, and type.
- Assist in the maintenance and cleaning of sawmill equipment and work areas.
- Monitor equipment for malfunctions and report any issues to supervisors promptly.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Work collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth and efficient production flow.
- Perform general labor duties as assigned to support overall sawmill operations.
- Inspect timber for defects and ensure quality standards are met at various stages.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform heavy physical labour for extended periods.
- Strong understanding and adherence to safety protocols in an industrial setting.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Basic communication skills to follow instructions and report issues.
- Comfortable working in various weather conditions (indoors and outdoors) and in a noisy environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a sawmill, manufacturing, or general labour role.
- Experience operating forklifts or other heavy equipment (certification an asset).
- Knowledge of different wood types and lumber grading.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
