Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Lineman – Electrical to join our dedicated team in Rockcliffe Park, Ottawa. As a Lineman, you will be at the forefront of constructing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground electrical power distribution and transmission lines. You will be responsible for installing and repairing poles, towers, cables, and conduits, as well as connecting and disconnecting service lines, and performing routine inspections and troubleshooting to prevent outages. Key Responsibilities
- Install, repair, and maintain overhead and underground electrical power distribution and transmission lines, including poles, towers, cables, and conduits.
- Connect and disconnect electrical services, transformers, and streetlights.
- Perform routine inspections, tests, and troubleshoot electrical systems to identify and correct faults or hazards.
- Respond to power outages and emergency situations, often outside regular business hours, to restore service safely and efficiently.
- Operate and maintain specialized equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other utility vehicles.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, company policies, and provincial/national electrical codes (e.g., ESA, CSA, OH&S).
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Work collaboratively with other crew members, foremen, and engineers to ensure project completion.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to apprentice linemen as required.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment inspections.
Required Skills
- Journeyman Lineman certification or equivalent recognized provincial trade qualification.
- Minimum of 3 years (36 months) of proven experience as a qualified Lineman.
- Valid Class A or D Driver's License with Z endorsement (or equivalent, e.g., AZ).
- Comprehensive knowledge of electrical theory, power distribution systems, and safety practices.
- Proficiency in operating bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other heavy equipment.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in various weather conditions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Commitment to continuous learning and adherence to evolving safety standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional certifications related to electrical safety, rigging, or equipment operation.
- Experience with both overhead and underground utility construction and maintenance.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience in a lead or supervisory role.
- Familiarity with GIS mapping and work order management systems.
