Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as Seasonal Park Rangers in the beautiful Alta Vista area of Ottawa. This is an exciting opportunity to work outdoors, contribute to environmental conservation, and engage with the public in one of Ottawa’s cherished green spaces. As a Seasonal Park Ranger, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and ecological integrity of our parks, ensuring an enjoyable experience for all visitors.

Your day will be dynamic and varied, involving everything from patrolling designated areas to educating the public about local wildlife and park regulations. You’ll be the friendly face of our parks, offering assistance, answering questions, and fostering a sense of respect for nature. This role requires a love for the outdoors, excellent interpersonal skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You will gain invaluable experience in park operations, public relations, and environmental management, all while contributing to the well-being of our community and local ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol designated park areas to ensure public safety, enforce park regulations, and monitor natural resources.
  • Educate visitors on park rules, local flora and fauna, and responsible outdoor recreation practices.
  • Perform light maintenance duties, including trail clearing, litter removal, and upkeep of park facilities.
  • Respond to visitor inquiries, provide directions, and offer assistance as needed.
  • Assist in emergency situations, including first aid response and coordination with emergency services.
  • Monitor and report on wildlife activity, environmental conditions, and potential hazards.
  • Prepare daily reports on park conditions, incidents, and visitor interactions.
  • Collaborate with other park staff and volunteers on conservation projects and special events.

Required Skills

  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
  • Strong physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Basic knowledge of local wildlife, plant species, and ecological principles.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License and a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in environmental studies, park management, conservation, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in park operations, outdoor recreation, or customer service.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered a significant asset.
  • Wilderness First Aid certification.
  • Experience with small equipment operation (e.g., chainsaws, ATVs).
