Job Description
Hiring.zycto is excited to announce a unique opportunity for a highly motivated and skilled GIS Specialist to join a pioneering team working with the Canadian Museum of Nature. This remote position offers the chance to contribute significantly to the understanding and preservation of the natural world, leveraging advanced geospatial technologies from anywhere in Canada. As a GIS Specialist, you will be instrumental in managing, analyzing, and visualizing complex spatial data related to biodiversity, natural science collections, research projects, and institutional operations.
You will play a crucial role in enhancing our client’s capacity to interpret and present vast amounts of ecological, geological, and biological data. This involves everything from developing and maintaining robust geospatial databases to performing intricate spatial analyses that uncover patterns and relationships vital for scientific discovery and public engagement. Your work will directly support researchers, curators, and educators by providing the foundational geographic context necessary for their projects. Imagine contributing to studies on species distribution, habitat mapping, climate change impacts, or even optimizing the logistical aspects of field expeditions – all from your remote workspace.
This role requires a proactive individual with a deep understanding of GIS principles and a strong technical skillset. You will be expected to utilize various GIS software platforms, implement best practices for data management, and develop innovative solutions for data visualization. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with interdisciplinary teams, translating complex spatial concepts into accessible and actionable insights. The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and through compelling visual products, is paramount.
