Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking enthusiastic and experienced Outdoor Guides to join our team for the upcoming season in Erindale, Mississauga. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals passionate about nature, adventure, and sharing their knowledge with others. As an Outdoor Guide, you will be responsible for leading diverse groups through various outdoor activities, ensuring their safety, enjoyment, and education throughout their experience. From scenic hikes and nature walks to canoe trips and wilderness skills workshops, you’ll be at the forefront of creating memorable adventures for our clients. This role requires a strong understanding of local ecology, exceptional leadership qualities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality outdoor programming. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise groups during various outdoor activities including hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and nature interpretation programs.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, strictly adhering to all safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Provide engaging and educational commentary on local flora, fauna, geology, and history.
  • Conduct pre-trip briefings, equipment checks, and post-trip debriefings.
  • Manage and maintain outdoor equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition.
  • Administer basic first aid when necessary and manage minor incidents effectively.
  • Adapt activity plans to suit varying weather conditions and group abilities.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging atmosphere for all participants.
  • Report any incidents, equipment issues, or feedback to the program coordinator promptly.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of experience (or 2 seasonal contracts) in outdoor guiding or leading group activities.
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification.
  • Strong knowledge of local trails, waterways, and natural areas in the Mississauga region.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and decision-making skills in outdoor settings.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical fitness to conduct demanding outdoor activities and carry necessary equipment.
  • Proficiency in basic navigation (map and compass).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Outdoor Recreation, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification.
  • Bronze Cross or NLS certification for water-based activities.
  • Experience with diverse age groups, including youth and seniors.
  • Knowledge of Leave No Trace principles.
  • Proficiency in a second language relevant to the local community.
