Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to create custom furniture and woodwork.
  • Measure, cut, shape, and assemble wood components to precise dimensions.
  • Install custom cabinetry, shelving, doors, windows, and other architectural elements.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of woodworking machinery, including saws, planers, routers, and sanders, safely and efficiently.
  • Select and prepare appropriate timber and materials, ensuring quality and suitability for each project.
  • Perform joinery techniques, including dovetail, mortise and tenon, and finger joints, with high accuracy.
  • Finish surfaces with sanding, staining, varnishing, and polishing to achieve desired aesthetics and durability.
  • Conduct on-site measurements and installations, ensuring a perfect fit and finish.
  • Collaborate effectively with design teams, project managers, and clients to ensure project success.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues that may arise during the construction or installation process.
  • Maintain high standards of craftsmanship and attention to detail throughout all stages of production.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Carpenter, Joiner, or Cabinet Maker.
  • Exceptional proficiency in various woodworking techniques and joint types.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings accurately.
  • Skilled in the safe operation and maintenance of woodworking machinery and hand tools.
  • Strong understanding of timber properties, characteristics, and material selection.
  • Excellent spatial awareness and mathematical aptitude for precise measurements and calculations.
  • Commitment to quality, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual tasks and lift heavy materials.
  • Valid UK driving license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Carpentry and Joinery or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience with bespoke furniture design and fabrication.
  • Knowledge of CAD software for woodworking (e.g., SketchUp, Cabinet Vision).
  • Portfolio showcasing previous woodworking projects.
  • Experience working in a client-facing role, managing expectations and communicating progress.
