Job Description

Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Employment Lawyer with a strong background in Human Resources to join our thriving practice in Albion Falls, Hamilton. This pivotal role involves providing comprehensive legal advice and strategic counsel on all aspects of employment law, labour relations, and HR compliance to a diverse portfolio of clients. You will be instrumental in guiding organizations through complex employment issues, from policy development and contract drafting to managing workplace investigations, disciplinary actions, and terminations. Your expertise will be crucial in mitigating risks, ensuring regulatory adherence, and fostering positive workplace environments. We are looking for a proactive professional who can not only react to legal challenges but also anticipate them, developing preventative strategies that align with our clients’ business objectives.

The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of provincial and federal employment legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Human Rights Code. You will represent clients in negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, and, if necessary, litigation before various tribunals and courts. This role demands exceptional communication skills, a meticulous approach to legal research, and the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical, actionable advice for HR professionals and business leaders. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal advice and counsel on all employment law matters to a diverse client base.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate employment agreements, workplace policies, termination letters, and severance packages.
  • Manage and advise on complex workplace investigations, disciplinary actions, disability management, and employee terminations.
  • Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, and litigation before various administrative tribunals and courts.
  • Ensure client compliance with provincial and federal employment and human rights legislation.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions on current employment law topics and best practices to clients and internal teams.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and stay abreast of legislative changes, regulatory developments, and emerging case law.
  • Collaborate effectively with HR professionals, business leaders, and other stakeholders to implement proactive legal strategies and mitigate risks.

Required Skills

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Called to the Bar in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-call experience practicing exclusively or primarily in employment law.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Canadian employment standards, labour relations, and human rights legislation.
  • Exceptional analytical, research, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Superior written and verbal communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a diverse caseload independently and provide practical, strategic legal advice.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a client-centric approach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience advising clients across a broad range of industries and sectors.
  • Master's degree in Labour Relations or Human Resources (e.g., MLR, MIRHR).
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP/CHRL) designation.
  • Experience with collective bargaining processes and unionized environments.
  • Proficiency in French is considered a valuable asset.
