As an NGO Driver, you will be at the heart of our logistics and field operations, directly contributing to our mission by safely transporting personnel, vital supplies, and equipment to various locations, often within challenging environments.

Your day-to-day will be dynamic and varied, from managing transportation schedules and maintaining vehicle readiness to actively participating in field activities. You’ll be responsible for upholding the highest safety standards, adhering to all traffic regulations, and ensuring the comfort and security of our passengers and cargo. This role demands excellent navigational skills, a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance, and meticulous record-keeping. You’ll work closely with project managers and field teams, providing essential support that enables our programs to reach vulnerable communities and achieve their objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently transport personnel, equipment, and supplies to designated locations within Cardiff and surrounding regions.
  • Perform daily vehicle checks and routine maintenance (e.g., fuel, oil, tyre pressure, brakes, lights) to ensure all vehicles are in excellent working condition and roadworthy.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks, fuel consumption records, and maintenance reports.
  • Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, organizational safety policies, and local regulations.
  • Assist with loading and unloading of goods and equipment, ensuring secure transport.
  • Plan and optimize routes to ensure timely arrivals and efficient use of resources.
  • Report any vehicle malfunctions, accidents, or incidents immediately to the supervisor.
  • Maintain cleanliness of vehicles, both interior and exterior.
  • Provide basic field support as required, assisting teams with setup or logistical tasks.
  • Interact professionally and courteously with colleagues, beneficiaries, and external partners.

Required Skills

  • Valid UK Driving Licence (Category B minimum) with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional driving experience, preferably in a logistics or field-based role.
  • Excellent knowledge of local road networks in Cardiff and South Wales.
  • Proven ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding and adherence to road safety regulations.
  • Reliable, punctual, and highly responsible.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical fitness to assist with loading/unloading tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced driving certification (e.g., defensive driving).
  • First Aid certification.
  • Previous experience working for an NGO or charity.
  • Familiarity with off-road driving (though not primarily expected for this location, could be beneficial).
  • Basic IT skills for navigation apps and simple record keeping.
