Job Description
Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomy Technician to join our team for a crucial morning shift. This full-time position is based at our modern facility in Bridle Path, Toronto, where you will be instrumental in providing essential diagnostic services to our diverse patient base. Your morning responsibilities will commence early, ensuring that patients arriving for time-sensitive tests receive prompt attention. You will be responsible for accurately identifying patients, verifying test orders, collecting specimens, and preparing them for laboratory analysis, all while strictly adhering to safety and infection control protocols. Key Responsibilities
- Perform phlebotomy (venipuncture and capillary puncture) procedures on patients of all ages with skill and precision.
- Accurately identify patients and verify test orders using established protocols.
- Properly label and prepare all specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring specimen integrity.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sterile work environment, adhering to all infection control guidelines.
- Provide clear instructions to patients regarding collection procedures and post-collection care.
- Monitor patient condition during and after blood collection, providing first aid if necessary.
- Accurately document all collection procedures, including any challenges or special circumstances.
- Adhere strictly to all organizational policies, safety regulations, and quality assurance standards.
- Manage and maintain inventory of phlebotomy supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels.
- Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth workflow and patient satisfaction.
Required Skills
- Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy Technician program.
- Current Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification from a recognized body.
- Minimum of 1 year of recent, hands-on phlebotomy experience in a clinical setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency in venipuncture and capillary collection techniques for diverse patient populations.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in specimen collection and labeling.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a compassionate patient-first approach.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Solid understanding of medical terminology, laboratory safety, and infection control practices.
- Basic computer proficiency for data entry and electronic record-keeping.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with various Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
- Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the Toronto community (e.g., Mandarin, French, Punjabi).
- Experience in a high-volume diagnostic laboratory or hospital outpatient setting.
