Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly and efficiently to emergency calls, providing immediate pre-hospital medical care.
- Assess patient conditions, diagnose acute medical problems, and identify life-threatening situations.
- Administer medications and perform advanced medical procedures, including IV insertion, intubation, defibrillation, and trauma care, according to established protocols.
- Operate and maintain specialized medical equipment, including defibrillators, ventilators, and cardiac monitors.
- Safely transport patients to appropriate medical facilities, monitoring their condition throughout transit.
- Document patient care accurately and thoroughly, including medical history, interventions, and patient response.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, emergency personnel, and hospital staff.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism, adhering to all ethical standards and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure ambulances and equipment are clean, stocked, and in good working order at all times.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain certification and enhance skills.
Required Skills
- Valid Paramedic certification (PCP or ACP) in Ontario.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.
- Minimum 2 years (24 months) of experience as a certified Paramedic in an emergency setting.
- Demonstrated ability to perform advanced medical procedures under pressure.
- Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in medical documentation and record-keeping.
- Valid G-class driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Physical ability to lift and move patients and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) designation.
- Additional certifications such as ITLS, PHTLS, or similar trauma certifications.
- Experience working within a major urban EMS system.
- Proficiency in a second language relevant to Toronto's diverse population (e.g., Mandarin, Cantonese, Punjabi, Tagalog).
- Experience with various electronic patient care reporting (ePCR) systems.
