Job Description

We are actively seeking a highly meticulous and experienced Payroll Clerk to join our team in Toronto’s bustling Hospital District. Key Responsibilities

  • Process bi-weekly payroll for a multi-faceted employee base, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Calculate and verify wages, salaries, deductions, benefits, and statutory remittances (e.g., CPP, EI, income tax).
  • Maintain up-to-date and confidential employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, and changes to compensation or benefits.
  • Prepare and reconcile various payroll reports, including general ledger entries, to support accounting functions.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, and benefits with professionalism and clarity, resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Assist with the administration of employee benefits and pension plan deductions and contributions.
  • Support year-end payroll activities, including the preparation and distribution of T4s and other annual summaries.
  • Stay current with Canadian payroll legislation, employment standards, and tax regulations to ensure continuous compliance.
  • Collaborate closely with Human Resources and the Accounting department to ensure integrated and efficient administrative processes.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of proven experience as a Payroll Clerk or Payroll Administrator.
  • Proficiency in recognized payroll software (e.g., ADP Workforce Now, Ceridian Dayforce, QuickBooks Payroll).
  • Solid understanding of Canadian payroll legislation, employment standards, and CRA guidelines.
  • Exceptional data entry skills with an acute attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs).
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification from the National Payroll Institute (formerly CPA).
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience processing payroll for a large volume of employees (100+).
  • Familiarity with HR Information Systems (HRIS) integration with payroll.
