Job Description
Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Forensic Scientist to join our state-of-the-art laboratory team in Market Wharf, Toronto. In this crucial role, you will be instrumental in processing, analyzing, and interpreting physical evidence collected from crime scenes, contributing directly to criminal investigations and the pursuit of justice. Our lab handles a diverse range of cases, requiring expertise in various forensic disciplines, including but not limited to DNA analysis, toxicology, trace evidence, and controlled substances identification.
As a Forensic Scientist, you will be responsible for conducting complex scientific tests using advanced instrumentation, maintaining stringent chain-of-custody protocols, and producing detailed, accurate reports. Your work will involve operating and maintaining sophisticated analytical equipment, performing quality control checks, and ensuring all analyses adhere to established laboratory standards and accreditation requirements. This position demands exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex forensic analyses on various types of physical evidence (e.g., biological samples, controlled substances, trace evidence) using established scientific methods and instrumentation.
- Maintain strict chain-of-custody for all evidence received, processed, and stored.
- Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on analytical instruments, including GC-MS, LC-MS, FTIR, and DNA sequencers.
- Interpret analytical results, prepare comprehensive scientific reports, and generate statistical data.
- Provide expert testimony in court proceedings regarding analytical findings and forensic methodologies.
- Participate in laboratory quality assurance/quality control programs and adhere to all accreditation standards.
- Conduct research and development to improve existing analytical techniques and implement new methodologies.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific field.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a forensic laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation (e.g., GC-MS, LC-MS, PCR, DNA sequencers).
- Strong understanding of laboratory quality control procedures and accreditation standards (e.g., ISO/IEC 17025).
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and public speaking.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and ethical standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Forensic Science or a related scientific discipline.
- Certification by a recognized professional forensic organization (e.g., American Board of Criminalistics).
- Experience in specialized forensic areas such as firearms, document examination, or digital forensics.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
