In this vital role, you’ll be responsible for the seamless collection and delivery of various goods to our diverse clientele across Whalley, Surrey, and surrounding areas. You’ll navigate local roads and motorways, adhering strictly to delivery schedules and traffic regulations. Beyond the wheel, you’ll engage with customers, handle paperwork, and ensure the vehicle is maintained to the highest safety and cleanliness standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently transport goods to designated locations within specified timeframes.
  • Conduct daily pre-shift and post-shift vehicle checks, reporting any defects or issues promptly.
  • Load and unload the van carefully, ensuring goods are secured to prevent damage during transit.
  • Maintain accurate delivery records, including mileage logs, delivery notes, and proof of delivery.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, and management regarding delivery status, issues, or delays.
  • Adhere to all road safety regulations, company policies, and driving laws.
  • Keep the vehicle clean and tidy, performing basic maintenance tasks as required.
  • Assist with route planning and optimisation to ensure efficient deliveries.
  • Handle cash or process payments upon delivery if required, ensuring accuracy.

Required Skills

  • Valid UK Driving License (Category B) with no more than 6 penalty points.
  • Minimum of 6 months professional van driving experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of local Whalley, Surrey, and surrounding areas.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy items safely.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrable reliability and punctuality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with handheld scanning devices or delivery management software.
  • Familiarity with various types of goods handling and securement.
  • Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge.
  • First Aid certification.
