Key Responsibilities
- Operate Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV) safely and efficiently, adhering to all traffic laws and company policies.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles and associated equipment.
- Load and unload cargo safely, ensuring proper weight distribution and securement.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery manifests, bills of lading, and all required paperwork.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, warehouse personnel, and customers regarding delivery schedules, delays, and issues.
- Adhere to strict delivery schedules and routes, managing time effectively to meet deadlines.
- Report any incidents, accidents, mechanical problems, or traffic violations promptly.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and provincial transportation regulations, including Hours of Service.
- Perform minor roadside repairs and routine maintenance checks as needed.
Required Skills
- Valid Class 1 (or equivalent HGV Class 1/A) driver's license with an excellent driving record.
- Minimum of 2 years (24 months) of commercial driving experience.
- Knowledge of provincial and federal transportation regulations.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, pushing, and pulling, as required for cargo handling.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with various types of trailers (e.g., flatbed, reefer, dry van).
- Familiarity with local and regional routes within British Columbia.
- Certification in Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG).
- Basic mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting and minor vehicle issues.
- Experience using electronic logging devices (ELDs) and GPS navigation systems.
