Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care under appropriate supervision.
  • Assist with comprehensive patient assessments and contribute to individualised care planning.
  • Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately according to prescribed orders and protocols.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive patient records, ensuring confidentiality.
  • Collaborate effectively and respectfully with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to optimise patient outcomes.
  • Monitor and meticulously document patient vital signs, symptoms, and changes in condition, reporting concerns promptly.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for all patients, adhering strictly to infection control policies.
  • Adhere to all clinical policies, procedures, and regulatory standards set by professional bodies and healthcare institutions.
  • Actively participate in continuous professional development and mandatory training initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients and their families, providing support and information.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living while promoting independence.

Required Skills

  • Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or pending registration for newly qualified nurses.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSc or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong observational, assessment, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Basic IT literacy for electronic patient record systems and communication tools.
  • Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and a patient-centered approach to care.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a diverse team environment.
  • A strong commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
  • Ability to demonstrate resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Previous practical experience in a healthcare setting through student placements or as a healthcare assistant.
  • Familiarity with NHS Scotland policies and procedures, including Agenda for Change.
  • Experience with electronic patient record systems (e.g., TrakCare, EMIS Web).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) activities during training.
