Job Description
Hiring.zycto is seeking a diligent and enthusiastic Farm Hand – General Labor to join our growing team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to urban greening and sustainable agricultural initiatives within the dynamic landscape of Toronto, particularly in areas impacted by and benefiting from infrastructure development like the Scarborough Subway Extension. As a Farm Hand, you will be integral to the daily operations of our urban farming projects, community gardens, and green spaces, ensuring they thrive and contribute positively to the local ecosystem and community well-being. Your work will involve a variety of hands-on tasks, from preparing soil and planting crops to maintaining irrigation systems and harvesting produce. This role demands a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and the ability to perform physical tasks outdoors in various weather conditions. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare soil beds for planting, including tilling, fertilizing, and amending soil.
- Planting, transplanting, and cultivating a variety of crops, herbs, and ornamental plants.
- Perform general farm duties such as weeding, watering, pruning, and pest management using organic methods.
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems.
- Harvest produce and prepare it for distribution or storage, ensuring quality and freshness.
- Operate and maintain basic farm equipment and hand tools safely and effectively.
- Monitor plant health and report any issues or concerns to the supervisor.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, tools, and equipment.
- Assist with greenhouse operations, including seeding, potting, and climate control.
- Contribute to the upkeep of community gardens and public green spaces.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies at all times.
Required Skills
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs)
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
- Basic knowledge of gardening or farming practices
- Ability to operate basic hand tools and farm equipment
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in landscaping, gardening, or a farm setting

- Valid G Class Driver's License with a clean driving record
- First Aid and CPR certification
