You will gain hands-on experience in all phases of the design process, from initial client consultations and site analysis to conceptualization, detailed design, and project execution support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior Garden Designers in all phases of landscape design projects, from concept to completion.
  • Conduct site analyses, measurements, and photographic documentation for various projects.
  • Develop conceptual designs, sketches, and mood boards that align with client vision and project requirements.
  • Prepare detailed landscape plans, planting plans, and construction drawings using CAD software.
  • Research and select appropriate plant materials, hardscape elements, and site furnishings, considering climate, aesthetics, and sustainability.
  • Assist in preparing professional client presentations and project proposals.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure smooth project progression.
  • Maintain organized project files, documentation, and material libraries.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new materials, and sustainable design practices.

Required Skills

  • Basic knowledge of landscape design principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
  • Strong creative and visual communication skills, including sketching and rendering.
  • Foundational understanding of horticulture and plant identification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • A portfolio showcasing design projects (academic or personal).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Landscape Architecture, Landscape Design, Horticulture, or a related field.
  • Previous internship or entry-level experience in a landscape design firm.
  • Familiarity with local Calgary and Alberta plant palettes and climate considerations.
  • Experience with 3D rendering software (e.g., SketchUp, Lumion, Enscape).
