Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct impartial mediation sessions for individuals, groups, and organizations, facilitating constructive communication and negotiation.
  • Assess conflict situations, identify underlying issues, interests, and potential barriers to resolution.
  • Guide parties through the mediation process, ensuring all participants understand their roles and responsibilities.
  • Develop and propose creative, practical, and sustainable solutions that address the needs of all parties.
  • Assist parties in drafting clear, comprehensive, and legally sound settlement agreements.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards in all mediation activities.
  • Manage a diverse caseload, including scheduling, case preparation, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Provide conflict coaching and training as needed to enhance communication skills and preventive measures.
  • Stay current with best practices, legal frameworks, and emerging trends in conflict resolution and mediation.

Required Skills

  • Certified Mediator (e.g., through ADR Institute of Ontario or equivalent recognized body).
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in conflict resolution or mediation.
  • Exceptional active listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to maintain neutrality, impartiality, and manage power imbalances.
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
  • High degree of empathy, patience, and emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and manage sensitive situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Law, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Experience mediating in specific contexts such as workplace, family, or community disputes.
  • Familiarity with various alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methodologies.
  • Bilingualism (English and French, or other relevant languages) is an asset.
  • Additional certifications in advanced mediation techniques or specialized conflict areas.
