Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, price, and underwrite new and renewal business in accordance with delegated authority limits and company guidelines.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients, providing exceptional service and expert advice.
  • Analyze complex risk information, financial statements, and market data to make informed underwriting decisions.
  • Negotiate terms, conditions, and pricing with brokers to secure profitable business.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, identifying trends and recommending adjustments to underwriting strategy.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (claims, actuarial, sales) to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting policies, procedures, and products.
  • Stay abreast of market conditions, regulatory changes, and emerging risks relevant to the portfolio.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as an Underwriter, preferably within a specialist or commercial lines environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • In-depth understanding of insurance principles, policy wordings, and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Proficiency in using underwriting systems and data analysis tools.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a busy workload effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ACII or equivalent professional insurance qualification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific niche markets or complex risk classes.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks in the UK insurance market.
