Job Description

This critical role involves providing essential care and support to patients during overnight hours, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding during night hours.
  • Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) and accurately document all observations.
  • Help patients with mobility and transfers, using proper body mechanics and assistive devices as needed.
  • Respond to call bells promptly and provide immediate assistance or notify nursing staff as required.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment, including changing bed linens and tidying patient rooms.
  • Assist with patient ambulation and exercises as directed by the nursing or therapy team.
  • Provide emotional support and comfort to patients, especially those who may experience anxiety or discomfort during the night.
  • Document patient care activities, observations, and vital signs accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate effectively with Registered Nurses and other healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care.
  • Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, and safety protocols, including infection control guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Successful completion of a Personal Support Worker (PSW) program or equivalent Nursing Assistant certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Nursing Assistant or PSW, preferably in a long-term care or hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate and patient-centered care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in English.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong observational and documentation skills.
  • Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working night shifts in a healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Additional language proficiency is an asset.
  • Familiarity with the specific needs of geriatric patients.
