In this full-time role, you will be instrumental in guiding students through their educational journeys, helping them navigate complex academic requirements, explore diverse career paths, and connect with vital campus resources. As an Academic Advisor, you will serve as a primary point of contact and mentor for a diverse caseload of students, offering personalized guidance on crucial academic decisions such as course selection, major/minor declarations, and long-term academic planning. Your expertise will empower students to confidently understand university policies, interpret intricate degree audits, and strategically overcome academic challenges. This position demands a proactive approach, involving regular outreach to students, particularly those identified as at academic risk, and fostering close collaboration with faculty, department chairs, and various campus support departments to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to student development and success. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personalized academic advising to a diverse caseload of students, covering course selection, major/minor exploration, and degree requirements.
  • Assist students in developing realistic academic goals and creating pathways to achieve them, including graduation planning.
  • Monitor student academic progress, identify students at risk, and intervene with appropriate support and referrals to campus resources (e.g., tutoring, counseling, career services).
  • Interpret and explain institutional academic policies, procedures, and curriculum to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Collaborate with faculty, department chairs, and other student support services to ensure comprehensive student development and success.
  • Conduct advising appointments, workshops, and informational sessions on academic planning, registration, and related topics.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records, documenting all advising interactions and progress.
  • Participate in new student orientation programs, registration events, and other campus activities.
  • Stay current with best practices in academic advising and participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Advocate for student needs and serve as a liaison between students and various university departments.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in academic advising, student services, or a similar educational guidance role.
  • Demonstrated understanding of student development theories and advising best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build rapport with diverse student populations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, capable of managing a large caseload effectively.
  • Proficiency in using student information systems (SIS), CRM software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Commitment to student success and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific student information systems (e.g., Banner, Workday, Jenzabar).
  • Familiarity with career counseling principles and resources.
  • Experience working with non-traditional students or specific student populations (e.g., first-generation, international).
