Job Description

As a Blasting Technician, you will play a critical role in various projects, from quarrying and aggregate extraction to infrastructure development and controlled demolition. Your work will involve preparing blast sites, handling explosives safely and responsibly, executing controlled blasts, and ensuring adherence to all federal, provincial, and company safety regulations. This role demands a strong commitment to safety, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively as part of a highly coordinated team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in comprehensive training programs covering all aspects of blasting operations and safety protocols.
  • Assist in the safe and secure transportation, storage, and handling of explosives and blasting agents.
  • Help prepare blast sites, including drilling patterns, loading boreholes, and connecting initiation systems under supervision.
  • Learn and apply precise blast design principles to achieve desired fragmentation and minimize environmental impact.
  • Monitor and maintain blasting equipment, ensuring it is in safe working condition.
  • Adhere strictly to all company, provincial, and federal safety regulations and procedures.
  • Assist with post-blast inspections, ensuring site stability and safety.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other site personnel.
  • Participate in pre-blast meetings and risk assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records of explosive usage, blast patterns, and safety checks.

  • Experience with heavy machinery (e.g., drills) is an asset.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in diverse environmental conditions.
