Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and energetic Kitchen Steward to join the dedicated culinary team at a premier hotel in White Rock, British Columbia. This full-time position is absolutely critical to the seamless operation and pristine standards of our bustling kitchen. As a Kitchen Steward, you are the backbone of our culinary cleanliness, ensuring that all dishware, cookware, and kitchen areas meet the highest levels of hygiene and organization. Your commitment to maintaining an immaculate environment allows our chefs to create exquisite dishes and our guests to enjoy a superior dining experience, all while adhering to stringent health and safety regulations.

In this role, you will be responsible for the meticulous cleaning and sanitation of all kitchen equipment, utensils, dishes, and work surfaces. You will expertly operate commercial dishwashing machines, handle cleaning chemicals safely, and manage waste disposal and recycling processes efficiently. This isn’t just about cleaning; it’s about contributing to a harmonious and productive kitchen flow. You’ll ensure that our culinary team always has the tools they need, when they need them, by keeping everything spotless and organized. You’ll work closely with chefs and other kitchen staff, demonstrating teamwork and a proactive approach to keeping our operations running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain commercial dishwashing machines efficiently and safely.
  • Wash and sanitize all dishware, glassware, cutlery, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all kitchen areas, including floors, walls, storage rooms, and loading docks.
  • Properly store clean equipment, dishes, and utensils in designated areas.
  • Assist with waste management, including sorting recycling and disposing of trash according to hotel procedures.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines (HACCP, local health codes).
  • Monitor and stock cleaning supplies, reporting needs to management.
  • Assist with basic food preparation tasks or receiving deliveries as needed.
  • Support culinary team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations during peak hours.
  • Perform deep cleaning tasks for kitchen equipment and surfaces on a scheduled basis.

Required Skills

  • Ability to lift, carry, and push up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness standards.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and potentially hot/humid environment.
  • Team-oriented mindset with good communication skills.
  • Reliability and punctuality are essential.
  • Basic understanding of hygiene and safety principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (6+ months) in a hotel or restaurant kitchen, particularly in a stewarding role.
  • Knowledge of commercial dishwashing equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with HACCP principles or other food safety certifications.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
