Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough examination of public records to determine property ownership and identify potential title defects.
  • Analyze deeds, mortgages, liens, judgments, easements, and other instruments impacting real property.
  • Prepare detailed title commitments, endorsements, and policies in accordance with company guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and resolve complex title issues, encumbrances, and exceptions through research and collaboration with legal counsel.
  • Communicate proactively with clients, attorneys, lenders, and real estate professionals regarding title status and requirements.
  • Review surveys, plats, and legal descriptions for accuracy and consistency.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of all title examinations and related documentation.
  • Stay updated on relevant real estate laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Provide support to underwriting and closing departments as needed.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Title Insurance Analyst or similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of title insurance principles, practices, and regulations.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in conducting public record research (online and physical).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex legal documents and property records.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Title insurance license or certification (e.g., Paralegal, Certified Land Title Professional).
  • Experience with title examination software or property record databases.
  • Familiarity with Nova Scotia real estate law.
