Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain drilling equipment, tools, and machinery on an oil rig, including but not limited to drawworks, mud pumps, and pipe handling systems.
  • Assist in the assembly, disassembly, and transportation of drilling rigs and associated equipment.
  • Perform routine checks, inspections, and preventative maintenance on all machinery and tools to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Load and unload materials, drilling pipes, and specialized equipment using cranes, forklifts, or other lifting devices.
  • Monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure safe and efficient operation of drilling processes.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
  • Participate actively in safety meetings, hazard assessments, and contribute to a proactive safety culture on the rig.
  • Clean and prepare drill sites, maintaining a tidy, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Work collaboratively with other crew members, supervisors, and contractors to achieve operational objectives and resolve issues.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies, including blowouts, fires, and medical incidents, and assist in remedial actions as required.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience in oil rig operations or heavy industrial settings.
  • Strong understanding of drilling processes, equipment operation, and maintenance procedures.
  • Demonstrated commitment to stringent safety procedures and practices in high-risk environments.
  • Ability to work effectively in physically demanding and challenging conditions, including long shifts and remote locations.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse crews.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical examination, drug screening, and background checks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant safety certifications such as H2S Alive, First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Fall Protection, or Confined Space Entry.
  • Experience with specific drilling technologies, well control equipment, or specialized offshore operations.
  • Trade certification or technical diploma in a related mechanical, electrical, or industrial field.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered a significant asset for operations based in Montreal.
  • Offshore safety certification (e.g., BOSIET – Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training) for offshore projects.
