Job Description

As a Law Librarian – Professional at Hiring.zycto, you will be the cornerstone of our legal research and information services, playing a pivotal role in ensuring our legal team has immediate access to the most accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date legal resources available. You will be instrumental in curating and expanding our digital and physical collections, proactively identifying new legal databases, treatises, and journals that align with our firm’s practice areas and strategic goals. Your deep understanding of legal research methodologies and information retrieval systems will empower our lawyers to conduct efficient and effective research, saving valuable time and enhancing the quality of their work.

You will be responsible for developing and delivering training programs for legal staff on various research tools and techniques, ensuring optimal utilization of our resources. This includes guiding on specific database functionalities, citation management, and staying abreast of legislative changes and jurisprudential developments. Furthermore, you will manage vendor relationships for subscriptions and database licenses, advocating for the best resources and cost-effective solutions.

A key aspect of this position involves contributing to the development of our knowledge management strategies. You will work collaboratively with legal professionals to organize internal documents, precedents, and research memos, transforming raw information into accessible institutional knowledge. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, develop, and maintain the firm's physical and digital legal research collections.
  • Provide expert legal research assistance to lawyers and legal staff across various practice areas.
  • Evaluate and recommend new legal resources, databases, and information technologies.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions on legal research tools, techniques, and information literacy.
  • Oversee cataloging, indexing, and classification of all library materials.
  • Manage vendor relations, license agreements, and budget for legal information resources.
  • Stay abreast of new developments in legal information, technology, and research trends.
  • Contribute to the firm's knowledge management initiatives and internal document organization.
  • Ensure compliance with copyright laws and licensing agreements.
  • Provide current awareness services, including legislative updates and case law alerts.

Required Skills

  • Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) or Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a Law Librarian or similar role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in major legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis, Quicklaw).
  • Proficiency in cataloging standards (e.g., MARC, RDA) and integrated library systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced legal environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of legal terminology, research methodologies, and judicial processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree or a certificate in Paralegal Studies.
  • Experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or academic law library setting.
  • Familiarity with knowledge management principles and systems.
  • Experience with current awareness tools and legal tech applications.
  • Project management experience related to information systems implementation.
