Key Responsibilities
- Dispense prescription medications accurately and efficiently, ensuring patient safety and adherence to all regulatory standards.
- Provide comprehensive patient counseling on medication use, potential side effects, drug interactions, and adherence strategies.
- Conduct medication reviews and assessments to optimize therapeutic outcomes and identify opportunities for health improvement.
- Administer injections and immunizations as per provincial regulations and company policy.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.
- Manage and maintain accurate patient records, including medication profiles and health history.
- Oversee and mentor pharmacy assistants and technicians, ensuring high standards of practice and efficient workflow.
- Participate in inventory management, ordering, and maintaining adequate stock levels of medications and supplies.
- Contribute to health promotion programs and community outreach initiatives.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional pharmacy environment.
- Stay current with new pharmaceutical products, services, and changes in pharmacy legislation and best practices.
Required Skills
- Licensed as a Pharmacist in Alberta (ACP)
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BScPharm)
- Strong clinical pharmacy knowledge and patient assessment skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Proficiency in pharmacy management software (e.g., Kroll, Nexxsys)
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment
- Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a high-volume retail pharmacy setting
- Additional certifications (e.g., Certified Diabetes Educator, travel health)
- Experience with sterile compounding or specialized pharmacy services
- Bilingualism (English and other languages prevalent in Calgary)
