Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct personal care to clients, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility assistance, with dignity and respect.
- Assist clients with medication reminders and ensure adherence to prescribed schedules as per care plans.
- Support clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) while encouraging independence.
- Monitor and accurately report any changes in clients' physical condition, emotional state, or mental health to supervising nurses or team leads.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized living environment for clients, adhering to hygiene protocols.
- Assist with meal preparation, feeding, and ensure clients receive adequate nutrition and hydration.
- Engage clients in meaningful social activities and provide companionship to combat loneliness and foster well-being.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, company policies, and ethical guidelines.
- Document care provided and client observations clearly, accurately, and in a timely manner according to established procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure holistic and coordinated client care.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for helping and caring for others.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting, bending, and assisting with transfers safely.
- Basic understanding of hygiene, infection control, and safety protocols.
- A clean criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized Health Care Aide (HCA) or Personal Support Worker (PSW) program.
- Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is considered a significant asset for effective client communication.
- Previous volunteer or informal caregiving experience is a plus.
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for potential client visits.
