As an Ecotourism Guide, you will be the face of Hiring.zycto, leading small to medium-sized groups on unforgettable excursions, ranging from guided hikes through provincial parks to interpretive canoe trips along significant waterways. Your primary mission will be to enrich the visitor experience by providing insightful commentary on local flora and fauna, geological formations, historical context, and the ecological importance of each site. You will be responsible for creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, ensuring all participants, regardless of age or experience level, feel comfortable and engaged. Safety is paramount; you will conduct pre-tour briefings, demonstrate proper use of equipment, and adhere to all safety protocols and emergency procedures.
This seasonal position demands excellent communication skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to adapt to varying group dynamics and weather conditions. Key Responsibilities
- Lead engaging and educational guided tours for diverse groups through natural environments.
- Provide accurate and interesting interpretive information on local ecology, history, and conservation.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants throughout tours, including first aid and emergency response.
- Conduct pre-tour briefings, equipment checks, and post-tour debriefings.
- Promote responsible outdoor ethics and environmental stewardship among participants.
- Maintain tour equipment and report any necessary repairs or replacements.
- Adapt tour content and pace to suit varying group demographics and environmental conditions.
- Contribute to the development of new tour routes and educational materials.
Required Skills
- In-depth knowledge of local flora, fauna, and ecosystems of Southwestern Ontario.
- Strong verbal communication and public speaking skills.
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification.
- Proficiency in outdoor navigation and map reading.
- Excellent group management and customer service abilities.
- Ability to work effectively outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Demonstrated passion for environmental conservation and education.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Science, Ecotourism, Biology, or a related field.
- Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness Advanced First Aid certification.
- Previous experience leading guided tours or educational programs.
- Fluency in additional languages (e.g., French).
- Certification in canoeing, kayaking, or other outdoor activity instruction.
