Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead client consultations, understanding needs, preferences, and project scope for high-end residential and commercial projects.
  • Develop comprehensive design concepts, including space planning, material selection, furniture layouts, lighting schemes, and custom millwork designs.
  • Prepare detailed design presentations, including mood boards, 2D and 3D renderings, and material samples to communicate vision effectively.
  • Create accurate technical drawings, specifications, and construction documents using AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar software.
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and procurement processes, ensuring projects are delivered on schedule and within financial parameters.
  • Collaborate closely with architects, contractors, vendors, and artisans to ensure design integrity and quality throughout execution.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and punch lists to oversee design implementation and resolve any on-site challenges.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, new materials, technologies, and building codes to integrate innovative solutions into designs.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, providing exceptional service and communication from concept to completion.
  • Mentor junior designers and contribute to a positive, collaborative studio culture.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in residential and/or commercial interior design.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, or similar design software.
  • Exceptional understanding of space planning, color theory, lighting design, and material specifications.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing high-end design projects and creative problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Canadian building codes and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Interior Design or Architecture.
  • NCIDQ certification or provincial equivalent (e.g., ARIDO in Ontario).
  • Experience with luxury residential or boutique commercial projects.
  • Proficiency in 3D rendering software (e.g., V-Ray, Enscape).
  • Supplier network in the Toronto design market.
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
