Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Employment Lawyer to join a dynamic legal team in Wexford, Toronto. This professional role demands a keen understanding of both provincial and federal employment legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Labour Relations Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Human Rights Code. The successful candidate will be pivotal in advising and representing clients on a broad spectrum of employment law matters, from day-to-day HR advisory to complex litigation.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work with a diverse client base, including corporations, small businesses, and individuals, navigating intricate legal challenges. You will be instrumental in drafting and reviewing employment contracts, termination agreements, workplace policies, and collective bargaining agreements. Furthermore, you will manage employment-related disputes, conduct workplace investigations, and represent clients before various administrative tribunals and courts. Our ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with exceptional analytical skills, capable of delivering strategic and practical legal advice under pressure. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive legal advice and representation to clients on all aspects of employment and labour law.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate employment agreements, termination letters, severance packages, and workplace policies.
  • Manage employment litigation files, including wrongful dismissal claims, human rights applications, and grievance arbitrations.
  • Conduct thorough workplace investigations and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Represent clients before various administrative tribunals (e.g., Ontario Labour Relations Board, Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario) and all levels of court.
  • Advise on compliance with employment standards, health and safety regulations, and privacy legislation.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions for clients on emerging employment law issues.
  • Stay abreast of legislative changes and case law developments in employment and labour law.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and superior service.

Required Skills

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree.
  • Called to the Bar in Ontario and a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Minimum of 5 years of post-call experience practicing employment and labour law in Ontario.
  • Demonstrated expertise in both employer and employee-side representation.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a diverse caseload independently and as part of a team.
  • Exceptional client service and relationship-building skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with collective bargaining and unionized environments.
  • Prior experience in a mid-to-large size law firm setting.
  • Additional certifications or advanced degrees in labour relations or human resources.
  • A track record of successful appearances before tribunals and courts.
