Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cartographer – Professional to join our dynamic team in Baldwin Village, Toronto. This pivotal role involves the advanced creation, analysis, and management of geographic data, transforming complex spatial information into clear, accurate, and visually compelling maps and digital products. As a Cartographer – Professional, you will be instrumental in supporting critical projects across various sectors, ranging from urban planning and environmental monitoring to logistical optimization and resource management. You will work with a diverse set of data sources, employing sophisticated GIS software and techniques to interpret geographical features, analyze spatial relationships, and produce high-quality cartographic outputs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and produce high-quality maps, charts, and spatial data visualizations for various projects and clients.
  • Perform advanced spatial analysis and data manipulation using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) to extract meaningful insights from complex datasets.
  • Collect, process, and integrate diverse geographic datasets from multiple sources, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and integrity.
  • Develop and maintain cartographic standards, styles, and templates to ensure consistency and professional quality across all outputs.
  • Collaborate with project managers, data analysts, and other stakeholders to define mapping requirements and deliver solutions that meet project objectives.
  • Contribute to the research and implementation of new cartographic techniques, software, and data visualization tools.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior cartographers and team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Document methodologies, data sources, and project specifications for future reference and knowledge sharing.
  • Present findings and cartographic products to internal teams and external clients, effectively communicating complex spatial information.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, Global Mapper)
  • Strong understanding of cartographic principles, map projections, and coordinate systems
  • Expertise in spatial data analysis and geoprocessing techniques
  • Experience with database management systems (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server)
  • Proficiency in data visualization and graphic design principles for maps
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Geomatics, Cartography, GIS, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field
  • Experience with scripting languages for GIS automation (e.g., Python with ArcPy)
