As a Seasonal Irrigation Technician, you will be instrumental in the daily operation, proactive maintenance, and prompt repair of our extensive, state-of-the-art irrigation systems. You’ll be responsible for conducting thorough routine inspections, precisely adjusting watering schedules based on real-time weather conditions, specific plant needs, and soil moisture levels, and implementing innovative water conservation practices to minimize waste. This position requires a proactive and vigilant approach to identifying potential issues before they escalate, performing comprehensive preventative maintenance, and responding swiftly to system malfunctions to ensure uninterrupted operation. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and repair of all irrigation system components, including controllers, valves, mainlines, lateral lines, and sprinkler heads.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic issues within the irrigation system promptly and efficiently.
- Adjust irrigation schedules and run times based on plant requirements, weather conditions, soil type, and water restrictions to ensure optimal water usage and plant health.
- Install new irrigation lines, sprinkler heads, and other components as needed for system upgrades or expansions.
- Operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment safely, including trenchers, pipe cutters, and diagnostic tools.
- Maintain accurate records of all irrigation activities, including repairs, installations, and water usage.
- Collaborate with the groundskeeping team to ensure irrigation practices align with overall landscape maintenance goals.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental regulations while performing duties.
- Provide recommendations for system improvements and upgrades to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as an Irrigation Technician, specifically with commercial or large-scale irrigation systems.
- Strong understanding of irrigation system design, components, and hydraulics.
- Ability to diagnose and repair issues with sprinkler heads, valves, controllers, and piping.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints and schematics for irrigation systems.
- Knowledge of local water conservation practices and regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Physical stamina to perform strenuous tasks outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Valid G-class driver's license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Horticulture or Landscaping diploma/certificate.
- Certified Irrigation Technician (CIT) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with smart irrigation controllers and water management software.
- Experience working in a stadium or large recreational facility environment.
- Knowledge of various turfgrass and plant species common to Ontario.
