Job Description
Hiring.zycto is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Location Manager to join our dynamic film production team in Toronto’s vibrant Garden District. This pivotal role is at the heart of bringing our cinematic visions to life, demanding a blend of creative flair, meticulous planning, and exceptional negotiation skills. As a Location Manager, you will be responsible for scouting, securing, and managing all filming locations, ensuring they align perfectly with the script’s requirements and the director’s artistic vision, while adhering to budget and schedule constraints.
Your day-to-day will involve extensive research and exploration, identifying unique and practical settings that enhance storytelling. Key Responsibilities
- Scout, research, and identify suitable filming locations based on script requirements, director’s vision, and production needs.
- Negotiate and secure location agreements, permits, and necessary clearances with property owners, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Manage and maintain location budgets, track expenses, and ensure cost-effective solutions.
- Conduct comprehensive site surveys, assessing logistical feasibility, accessibility, power requirements, and potential challenges.
- Develop and distribute detailed location breakdowns, maps, and call sheets for crew.
- Coordinate with various departments (e.g., production design, transportation, camera, lighting, catering) for seamless on-site operations.
- Oversee the setup and strike of locations, ensuring minimal impact on properties and communities.
- Act as the primary point of contact for property owners and local authorities during filming.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, local ordinances, and environmental protection guidelines.
- Address and resolve any location-related issues, conflicts, or emergencies promptly and professionally.
- Maintain a comprehensive database of potential locations and contacts.
Required Skills
- Minimum 4 years of proven experience as a Location Manager or Assistant Location Manager in film or television production.
- Demonstrated portfolio of successfully managed locations for diverse production types.
- Deep understanding of film production logistics, scheduling, and budgeting.
- Exceptional negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and ability to think creatively under pressure.
- Proficiency in location scouting software, mapping tools, and standard office suites.
- Valid G-class driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to work long hours, often outdoors, and travel extensively within the greater Toronto area and occasionally beyond.
- Knowledge of local bylaws, permitting processes, and community relations in Toronto.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Film Production, Media Arts, or a related field.
- Established network of contacts with property owners, location agencies, and municipal authorities in Toronto.
- Experience with sustainable film practices and environmental considerations in location management.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
