Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine and reactive inspections of various premises, including food establishments, private rented accommodation, and workplaces, to ensure compliance with public health legislation.
- Investigate complaints related to public health nuisances, food safety breaches, environmental protection issues, and other regulatory matters.
- Enforce relevant public health and environmental health legislation, including issuing statutory notices, cautions, and preparing for legal proceedings when necessary.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to businesses, landlords, and members of the public on best practices for health, safety, and environmental compliance.
- Prepare comprehensive inspection reports, maintain accurate records, and manage caseloads efficiently using relevant IT systems.
- Respond to and assist in the management of public health incidents, outbreaks, and emergencies, collaborating with internal and external agencies.
- Participate in health promotion initiatives and educational campaigns aimed at improving community health and well-being.
- Undertake risk assessments and develop appropriate mitigation strategies to reduce public health risks.
- Liaise effectively with other local authorities, government bodies, and community groups to achieve shared public health objectives.
- Stay abreast of changes in legislation, best practices, and emerging public health issues relevant to the role.
Required Skills
- A degree in Environmental Health or an equivalent qualification recognized by a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEH).
- Proven experience in a public health or environmental health enforcement role, ideally within a regulatory setting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of UK public health legislation, environmental protection laws, and enforcement procedures.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and persuasively.
- Strong analytical, investigative, and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated capability to work independently, manage a diverse caseload, and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Full UK driving license and access to a car for business use.
- Proficiency in standard office IT applications and case management software.

- Professional registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB) or equivalent.
