Key Responsibilities
- Assist with milking cows, including preparing cows for milking and attaching/detaching milking units.
- Monitor cow health and report any signs of illness or injury to senior staff.
- Clean and maintain milking parlours, barns, and other farm facilities to ensure hygiene and animal comfort.
- Feed and water livestock, ensuring they receive appropriate nutrition.
- Assist with moving cows between pastures and barns.
- Operate and maintain basic farm equipment (e.g., tractors, skid steers) under supervision, once trained.
- Perform general farm duties such as fencing, field maintenance, and minor repairs.
- Adhere strictly to animal welfare protocols and farm safety guidelines.
- Maintain accurate records of feed, milk production, and animal treatments as required.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new tasks and environments.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic communication skills in English (verbal).
- Comfortable working with animals in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Class 5 British Columbia Driver's License (or equivalent) for farm transport.
- Prior experience working outdoors or in a physically demanding role.
- Familiarity with basic farm equipment or willingness to learn quickly.
