Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough oral health assessments, including patient history, visual examinations, and radiographic interpretations.
  • Provide comprehensive prophylactic treatments, including scaling, root planing, and polishing.
  • Administer local anesthesia as required and within scope of practice.
  • Apply fluoride treatments, sealants, and other preventative agents.
  • Perform basic restorative procedures such as fillings and temporary restorations, as permitted by licensure and clinic protocols.
  • Educate patients of all ages on proper oral hygiene techniques, dietary advice, and preventative care strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including treatment plans and clinical notes.
  • Collaborate effectively with dentists, dental hygienists, and other dental professionals to optimize patient care.
  • Sterilize and maintain dental instruments and equipment in accordance with infection control guidelines.
  • Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to stay current with best practices and advancements in dental therapy.
  • Assist with scheduling and patient recall systems to ensure continuity of care.

Required Skills

  • Diploma or Degree in Dental Therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Current registration and in good standing with the appropriate regulatory body in British Columbia.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a Dental Therapist.
  • Proficiency in performing comprehensive oral health assessments and preventative treatments.
  • Demonstrated ability to administer local anesthesia.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-centered approach.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in record-keeping.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency with dental software and digital radiography.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a community-based dental practice or with diverse patient populations.
  • Additional certifications in advanced restorative techniques or specialized patient care (e.g., pediatric dentistry).

  • CPR and First Aid certification.
