Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and passionate Environment Canada Scientist to join our team in Leduc, Alberta. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and conduct scientific research projects related to environmental monitoring, climate change, biodiversity, or pollution.
  • Collect, process, and analyze complex environmental data using statistical software and specialized tools.
  • Interpret research findings and prepare comprehensive scientific reports, peer-reviewed publications, and presentations.
  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of environmental policies, regulations, and programs.
  • Operate and maintain specialized scientific equipment and instrumentation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, other government agencies, academic institutions, and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in field work, including data collection in diverse environmental settings, potentially in remote locations.
  • Communicate scientific information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Stay current with scientific literature, emerging technologies, and best practices in environmental science.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Chemistry, Hydrology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience in environmental research or applied science.
  • Demonstrated expertise in quantitative data analysis and statistical methods (e.g., R, Python, SAS).
  • Proficiency with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Strong understanding of Canadian environmental policy and regulations.
  • Proven ability to publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals or technical reports.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Valid Canadian driver's license and ability to travel for field work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specific environmental modeling software or advanced remote sensing techniques.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) and engagement practices.
  • Bilingualism (English and French).
  • Experience working within a government research context or on projects directly supporting government mandates.
  • Certification in specific environmental monitoring techniques or safety protocols.
